This Mindset Shift Will Change Your Life As A Creator.

It is very easy to get caught up in a comparison trap to those around you, especially with social media. It’s hard for me to take a step back and reflect on where my life has led to. I feel like I’m not the only one who feels this way… right? But a recent mindset shift I’ve been focusing on is trying to make my younger self proud of the opportunities I’ve created and continued to have in front of me. My younger self loved YouTube, filmmaking, music, and books. I was obsessed and spent the majority of my childhood indoors consuming as much art as I possibly could (sorry Mom and Dad, but I promise it paid off!)

If my 12 year old knew I went on to work in the camera department on films, has played drums for albums with my friends, and built a professional career producing podcasts and YouTube videos, he would 1. Not believe me and 2. Faint.

It’s so important to zoom out and be grateful versus staying in the game of “more, more, more” all the time. Now, as I start to focus on creating again for myself, I don’t want to think about algorithms or going viral. I want to think about creating things that would inspire my 12 year old self and make him proud. I’m actively living out multiple things that felt like a dream to him, so I owe it to him to continue making those dreams come true. It’s a far more rewarding way of creating that keeps things in a more positive perspective.
