9 Creative Side Hustles You Can Start
There’s never been a greater time to start a side hustle. But if you’re like I was a few years ago, it’s hard to know what’s out there. This list is to get you started with what I believe are 9of the greatest side hustles to consider today.
- Video Editing
There are video editing opportunities everywhere right now. With how many full-time content creators are out there, they all need someone to help edit their content to save them time. Saving them time is where you can make your money. You could also edit weddings, music videos, corporate videos and so much more. For many years, I was a video editor for entrepreneurs such as Lewis Howes and Daymond John. I focused on creating social media content and podcasts, so I can guarantee there’s opportunity there. You can learn everything you need to know on YouTube. I’d recommend DaVinci Resolve for editing. It’s free and just as good as Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X, which are not free.
2. Copywriting
Words sell. If you’ve always enjoyed writing, then becoming a copywriter could be perfect for you. You could write for individual creators as a ghostwriter, write for certain blogs that are related to your interests, write copy for sales pages. People don’t realize how important strong copy really is, so if you’re already a decent writer, then you could absolutely begin to generate income as a copywriter.
3. Social Media Graphics Designer
Every personal brand or business needs more graphics. If you have an artistic eye and can communicate ideas through powerful visuals, there’s an unlimited amount of work out there for you. You could design graphics to promote quotes, people’s products, and help clients communicate with their audience in a way that isn’t natural for them. You could learn photoshop to do this, but you can also start by using Canva.com and creating with all of the elements and themes they supply on their site.
4. Photography
Everyone thinks they’re a photographer, but most of them aren’t actually great. If you’ve always been interested in photography, you could begin offering all kinds of services from senior portraits, family portraits, weddings, events, concerts and so much more. There is always a need for photography because people love to capture moments that they can remember forever. Since there are so many different types of photos you could offer, this also helps you bring in more work on a regular basis.
5. Videography
There is so much opportunity with videography. I spent many years working as one. If you’re interested in films, then this could be a great opportunity for you. You could film weddings, events, music videos for artists, people’s auditions if you’re in a city with television and movie opportunities, other people’s youtube videos, concerts, etc. Everything you’d ever need to know about cameras, lighting and shooting is available on YouTube for you to learn.
6. Start A Tik Tok
This one may seem weird, but hear me out. Tik Tok’s algorithm is unlike any social media platform. You can post your first video and suddenly have a couple hundred thousand views. The discoverability factor is unmatched. Think about one subject that you’re most passionate about and create a Tik Tok around that idea. It could cooking, writing, gardening, comic books, or literally whatever you want. If it’s focused on one area and you create content each week, you can join their Partner Program to make money off of your views as well easily find brands to partner with that are related to your niche. You have to constantly create on Tik Tok or your audience will stop being served your content, but because of the algorithm, it’s the fastest platform to build an audience.
7. Start A YouTube Channel
While Tik Tok is a great place to build an audience faster, YouTube is another great place to create content that you can eventually monetize. YouTube is a better longterm play because while their algorithm can certainly help, you can also make your videos optimized for what people are searching for and reap the benefits on it for years. So for example, if you are passionate about guitars, then you could make videos like, “Best Beginner Tips For Guitar Players” and that video has the possibility of being found through search for a long time. YouTube’s Partner Program is also a way to monetize your content. It’s no easy task, but if you’re able to create consistent content that is evergreen, then every video can become a longterm asset for you and generate income.
8. Run Local Businesses Social Media
A lot of businesses run their social media poorly. This is your opportunity. You could offer the service of managing local business’s social media accounts. You could upload content to help the people in your area know what they have to offer, when they’re open, what specials they are running and so on. Most small business owners don’t have the time to run their social media accounts because they are running a business. There’s huge opportunity to help them grow with your services.
9. Build Websites
A lot of people have really bad websites. Some look like they were made over a decade ago and forgotten about. Some don’t even have a website! You can offer them the service of building their website out to feel modern and easy to navigate. There are so many simple ways to make websites today through Squarespace or Wix, so you don’t have to build anything from scratch. You can just help them get it setup and running so they can attract more business like they deserve.
And there you have it! The opportunities when it comes to building a creative side hustle are endless in today’s world. It really comes down to what peaks your interest the most and what you could pick up the fastest. For me, it was doing photography and video editing. I’ve done that as a side hustle for the last five years up till now. You are capable of trying any and all of these.
It’s time to go out there and make some money!
